I have lots to post about - our Cape Cod vacation and my weeks 32 and 33 pictures - but I thought I'd post quickly about our little scare from last night first.
Around 9pm Sunday night I started having contractions every four to five minutes. They were very quick, and not painful, but their frequency started to worry me. So, around midnight, we headed into the hospital so the midwives could observe me for a few hours.
They did lots of tests, and the most important one - the fetal fibronectin test - came back negative. I guess a negative result on this test is a 99% predictor that you won't go into labor in the next two weeks (it's measures a chemical that is secreted before labor starts). I had contractions the whole time I was there, but they determined that the contractions weren't making me dilate, so I could go home. The crazy thing is that since I'm almost 34 weeks, they probably wouldn't have stopped my labor at all if it had been the real thing!
We got home at 4:30 in the morning, and I have been resting at home all day today. Amazingly, Bill has been at work all day, on very little sleep (it was sad in the hospital - I could sleep in bed, but Bill had to try to sleep in a chair, leaning his head against the wall). I imagine he'll go to bed early tonight!
It was a bit of a scare - we aren't ready to have the baby yet, and she's got 6 more weeks to grow! Hopefully this is the last we'll see of the hospital for the next few weeks - but I'm going to take it easy and be careful just in case.
I thought I might escape my family's curse of preterm labor - I guess not! I also guess that I need to pack the hospital bag and make sure my cases at work are ready to transition to someone else - just in case!
