Today we had hoped to travel to Salerno, but the seas were too rough for the ferries, so we stayed in Amalfi. We visited the 11th-century Duomo, with its beautiful cloisters and the tomb of St. Andrew. We made a light lunch of bruschetta and lemon risotto, and then hiked to the Valley of the Mills, passing countless lemon groves, waterfalls, and old mill buildings. We stopped to ask for directions in a store in which a man was making limoncello from local lemons -- he didn't speak a lick of English, and was unable to guide us, but the smell was amazing. After returning to town we wandered the promenade and the piers and then visited a playground with beautiful vistas overlooking the harbor. We had a great dinner at Ristorante Il Teatro, and Maggie ate more than her share of veal saltimbocca.
