We set out this morning from Amalfi to Rome. The trip was long and took us on the winding roads up and down the mountain, but Maggie's stomach persevered. A highlight was passing a man riding a motorcycle while pulling horse. Not something I've ever seen before.
We arrived in Rome and checked into our apartment, in a terrific location directly across from Piazza Navano, with views of the piazza and the ruins of the 1st century Stadium of Domitian. As soon as we arrived, Maggie started referring to it as "Italy Home." She is apparently very adaptable. After settling in, we ate lunch at a nearby sidewalk cafe and headed for ancient Rome. We set out through Piazza Navona, with its three fabulous fountains, and soon learned that Rome holds amazing treasures around every corner. We toured the Colloseum and walked through the ruins of Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum, and then headed home as rain threatened. En route, we stopped for gelato and then accidentally stumbled upon the Pantheon.
We should also mention that today we had a few setbacks. Three setbacks, to be exact. And, to be even more exact, each of these three setbacks was a head injury sustained by Maggie. She hit her head this morning by slamming her bedroom door into her head, causing an unsightly goose-egg. The she fell at the Collosseum, scraping her head on the ground. Then she was sitting on the floor in our apartment -- just simply sitting -- when she fell forward and hit her head on the coffee table. This is not the type of hat trick of which we are proud.
